Bloodborne 60fps PS5 patch is two lines of code away, claims modder

Bloodborne at 60fps is just two lines of code away from being the PS5 port we all want, claims a respected modder.

Bloodborne was released for the PS4 in 2015 and quickly became one of FromSoftware’s most beloved hits.

Its haunting gothic aesthetic enticed Dark Souls veterans, as well as new fans alike. However, its framerate isn’t as smooth as fans would like.

Many games have benefitted from a PS5 patch

Ever since the release of the PlayStation 5 in 2020, fans have been calling for a new-gen patch by FromSoftware.

First-party Sony titles such as God of War (2018), Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us: Remastered, as well as Part 2 and Days Gone, have all benefited from a free PS5 patch.

Furthermore, the new-gen patch also enabled the PS4 first-party titles on PS5 to be played at a higher resolution of a smooth 60fps. Essentially, you were playing the best version of the game on the console.

Sadly, to this day, Bloodborne is yet to benefit from said patch.

Fans are waiting for the Bloodborne patch

At the time of writing, it’s still unknown why FromSoftware hasn’t given Bloodborne the special patch treatment.

However, some might argue that the developer intends to re-release a native PS5 port as a standalone game. Yet, if that was the case, perhaps that port might have arrived by now?

With that in mind, respected modder, Lance McDonald believes that enabling Bloodborne to run at a smooth 60fps is easier than some might believe.

A Twitter post claimed that the reason Bloodborne has a stuttering framerate is due to its questionable game engine. McDonald responded to the tweet and claimed that this was not the case.

I don’t know where the ‘FromSoftware engine is messy / spaghetti code’ idea keeps coming from,” replied McDonald. “It’s not true, and there are literally zero technical barriers between Bloodborne and a PC/60fps PS5 port/re-release. Sony can do it at any time they like without From’s support.

He continued, “A 60fps patch for the PS4 version is 2 lines of code that need changing. Japan Studio had a build of the game that was running on Windows 7 when they were shut down and Sony likely still has that build sitting in their archives, as well as all the source for it. I’ve seen it.

Will the PS5 patch ever arrive?

Moreover, McDonald also believes that a PS5 patch and/or a PC port of Bloodborne is “very likely.

That being said, if that were to happen, it remains to be seen if a PS5 version would arrive via a free update or as a standalone PS5 release.

Technically, you can officially play Bloodborne on PC. However, there is a catch.

You can only play Bloodborne on PC via streaming and you also need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
