Breath Of The Wild 2 Is Happening Because Developers Had Too Many Ideas For DLC

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best games the Nintendo Switch has to offer, and as the first open-world Zelda game, it didn’t disappoint fans both old and new.

During E3 2019 it was confirmed by Nintendo that a sequel to BOTW is currently in development, and gamers couldn’t be any more excited.

Speaking to Kotaku about the reasoning behind the game’s conception, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, explained that it’s all down to the many ideas the team had.

“When we released the DLC for Breath of the Wild, we realized that this is a great way to add more elements to the same world. But when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data—you’re adding data to a preexisting title. And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit,” Aonuma said.

“Initially we were thinking of just DLC ideas, but then we had a lot of ideas and we said, ‘This is too many ideas, let’s just make one new game and start from scratch.'”

From the sounds of things, we’re going to be getting a direct Zelda game sequel for the first time in a long time.

It’s been suggested that the recently announced sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is actually going to be darker than Majora’s Mask.

Series’ producer Eiji Aonuma recently sat down with IGN, where he discussed the darker tones seen in the announcement trailer for BOTW 2.

“The new Breath of the Wild or the sequel to it, it’s not necessarily going to be related to Majora’s Mask or inspired by it… What we showed you currently is a little darker,” said Aonuma.

As you can see from the trailer, Link and Zelda are traversing a much darker world than we saw in BOTW, which led to fan speculation that we’re getting a game that might end up being even more disturbing than Majora’s Mask.

It seems that might be the case!

We don’t expect to hear much on the BOTW sequel since this is a project that’s going to take a number of years. Still, we know Nintendo won’t let us down!
