The Evil Dead franchise is a staple of classic horror and it’s just been announced that the gore-fest will be getting itself a brand-new video game, starring none other than Bruce Campbell himself.
In an interview with Bloody-Disgusting, Campbell revealed: “They are doing a video game. A whole immersive kind of dealio.
“I’ll be Ash for that, because I wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.”
Bloody-Disgusting is speculating that “immersive” might actually mean the upcoming title with be virtual reality-compatible, which would definitely be a title worth playing!
Campbell unfortunately couldn’t reveal any more details on the game, but it’s not the first time he’s brought Ash to the world of gaming.
There’s a range of (not very well-received) game titles with the Evil Dead name, including Evil Dead: Hail to the King, Evil Dead: Regeneration and Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick.
Campbell reprised his role as Ash Williams in each of the games. The actor first teased the idea of him returning to the role of Ash back in May, with rumour suggesting there was a video game title in the works.
The most recent title in the series, Evil Dead: Regeneration, scored more favourably with critics and fans than its predecessors did, though it didn’t exactly end up knocking it out of the park.
The hack-and-slash game first released way back in 2005, launching on PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and mobile, and receiving middling-to-good reviews.
The original 1981 movie has seen numerous sequels and recently pulled in a whole new legion of fans thanks to its 2013 remake and television series, entitled Ash vs. Evil Dead.
Hopefully with a renewed interest from the fandom the world is now ready for a new spin on an Evil Dead video game.
