Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta dates and details have been revealed ahead of its full launch this coming October.
Despite the pending Microsoft takeover of Activision Blizzard, PlayStation gamers will get early access to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta next month.
Those that pre-ordered the game on PS5, as well as PS4, will be able to access the beta nearly a week earlier than PC and Xbox.
The beta will take place over two separate weekends. It will kick off at 6pm UK time/10am PT at the beginning of its respective weekend.
Here’s when you’ll be able to access the Modern Warfare 2 beta:

Weekend One
- September 16th to 17th for those that pre-ordered the game on PlayStation.
- September 18th to 20th is open for all those the game on PlayStation.
Weekend Two (Cross-Play beta)
- September 22nd to 23rd for all that pre-ordered the game on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
- September 24th to 26th is open to all those that game on available platforms.

How do I gain access to the beta?
For early access, you simply need to pre-order Modern Warfare 2 via your retailer of choice. Your code will be emailed close to the launch of the beta. Players will not need to pre-order the game to gain access during the open beta window.
How do I redeem the beta code?
Rather than having a code specifically for a single platform, your beta code will be tied to an Activision account. This means that once you redeem the code on your Activision account, you can access the beta on your platform of choice.
Will I need PS Plus and Xbox Live to play?
You will not need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to access the beta. Unfortunately, Xbox players will require an active Xbox Live subscription. No online subscription is required for PC, however, you will need a Battle.net or Steam account.
Is the beta cross-play?
Yes, the beta is cross-play and cross-progression enabled, which is why the code is tied to an Activision account.

What modes will be playable in the beta?
According to a Call of Duty blog post, the beta includes: “a robust multiplayer experience going beyond the core 6v6 experience with a variety of meticulously designed maps of various sizes, and an equally impressive set of modes, progression experiences, and other aspects”.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will also include the new Marina Bay Grand Prix map, explicitly developed for this rebooted sequel.
Is there progression in the beta?
Yes, there is progression in the beta and you’ll be able to unlock in-game rewards. Furthermore, if you have pre-ordered the Vault Edition, you will also have access to all four Red Team 141 Operators (Soap, Price, Ghost and Farah) as well as the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault.
Will progression carry over?
No, progression will not carry over into the full game. However, by participating in the beta, players will unlock “a number” of in-game rewards for the full game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to the Modern Warfare 2019 reboot. Modern Warfare 2 will be released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on October 28th.
