Call of Duty: Modern Warfare definitely delivered on its promise of a dark, gritty and memorable campaign, but could a sequel already be on the cards? The 2019 hit has been one of the stand-out titles in the entire CoD franchise, and the storyline has left players eagerly awaiting more.
Thankfully, it seems that a sequel – or even sequels, plural – is looking likely. Infinity Ward’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki recently dropped a reference to expanding the world on Twitter, telling fans that there’s “plenty of ground” left to explore in the future.
The news came about when one player criticised the inclusion of characters and story within the game’s multiplayer as opposed to a campaign, to which Kurosaki responded: “Don’t worry, we aren’t stealing from whatever is next. There’s plenty of ground left for sequels.”
Of course, when, what and how these supposed sequels could get off the ground is up for speculation. Still, it’s good to know that Activision and Infinity Ward are keen to continue on the path they’ve started.
It’s been a pretty exciting year for CoD fans. Not only did we get Modern Warfare late last year, but we’ve since seen the surprise release of Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, and the launch of the franchise’s free-to-play Battle Royale, Warzone.
As the official Warzone website was updated with details on the newly-released Season 3, a teaser showed off a series of images that heavily suggest Duos is coming. Listed under the “New Modes” section of the page, an image showing quads, an image showed trios and – surprisingly – an image showed two players together, suggesting Duos is on the way.
Since being spotted, the image has been swiftly removed from the website, but of course it’s too late now. Check it out in the tweet below.
Whatever is planned for the future of CoD, I’m more than ready!
