Call Of Duty: Warzone Planning ‘Fortnite-Like Events’

Whether you love or hate Epic Games’ Fortnite, you can’t deny that the game set a standard for the free-to-play Battle Royale genre. From Limited Time Modes to exciting big events, Epic Games sure knows how to keep its feet in the market, and it seems even the likes of Call of Duty is using the game for inspiration.

In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki spoke a little about the company’s vision for CoD Battle Royale, Warzone, stating there’s plans in the works for events and an overarching narrative, just like Fortnite.

“We’ve talked a lot in the past about whether games like Fortnite have a narrative,” he said.

“I would say yes, absolutely. I’d say Warzone does as well. But for me, it’s in a genre and a tone that I greatly prefer.”

Speaking specifically about big in-game events, such as Fortnite’s unforgettable Black Hole moment, Kurosaki had the following to say:

“That’s exactly the kind of thing that we’re working on, that we have planned. Again, it’s all going to fit into this macro that we’ve established in Modern Warfare, and that we’ve continued into Warzone. If you know who the players are in Modern Warfare, it’ll all make sense, and it’ll all feel appropriate to the universe.”

Warzone is only a few weeks old, but already it’s providing a solid and well-rounded experience that’s seriously fun to play. Personally I think that adding big events into the game will do nothing but improve it!

Right now, the game has a bit of a cheating problem, but it’s hoped that we’ll be seeing an end to that in the coming weeks.

Do you think Call of Duty: Warzone needs “Fortnite-like” events?
