CDPR Stops Telling Customers To Get Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds From Sony

It’s another day and another negative story regarding CD Projekt Red, developer of the recently released Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR has now stopped telling customers to get refunds from Sony if they’re unhappy with their purchase of Cyberpunk 2077.

Just a few days ago (seriously it feels longer than that) in response to the many bugs, glitches and performance issues of Cyberpunk 2077 in particular with the base PS4 and Xbox One versions, developer CDPR released a statement.

In this statement CDPR apologised for the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and made it quite clear that they perhaps did not test the PS4 and Xbox One versions as well as they should have.

CDPR said: “We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We will fix bugs and crashes, and improve the overall experience.”

The team also stated that unhappy customers should seek refunds if they prefer not to wait for the game to be fixed with patches.

We would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don’t want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy,” said CDPR in the statement.

So quite naturally fans who bought the game that wanted a refund in particular for digital purchases on PS4 contacted Sony.

Microsoft is quite relaxed in giving refunds for digital purchases however Sony does not share the same relaxed methods of refunding content purchased from the PSN Store.

As a result, by sticking to its strict refund policy and by its rights, Sony has been refusing many customer requests to refund Cyberpunk 2077.

I’m sure when CDPR advised its fans to seek refunds if they were unhappy, the developer had the best of intentions. However it seems that it wasn’t really their place to provide such advice and they perhaps never quite thought it through.

If CDPR and its higher-ups would have spoken to the likes of Sony or Microsoft to gain some sort of special refund allowances it would have made more sense to advise refunds.

However it seems that no talks on the topic of refunds had taken place, at least with Sony.

In an attempt to hopefully reduce the amount of refund requests going Sony’s way, CDPR has now stopped advising customers to contact Sony.

When customers contact CDPR it’s reported they instantly receive a template auto-reply (thanks Kotaku). In the auto-reply customers are advised to contact Microsoft on details how to refund with a link to Xbox support page.

However for Sony, customers are instead informed: “If you own a digital copy on PlayStation, please wait for us to get back to you.

I imagine this will be the common template response from CDPR in relation to potential refund requests for Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation until CDPR and Sony find some sort of common ground.

Either way, this whole situation continues to be an ever-growing mess. Do you think Sony customers should be able to get Cyberpunk 2077 refunds, or should CDPR have waited longer on the refund announcement?
