CDPR Warns Creators Not To Stream Cyberpunk 2077 Early

Developer of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red, has warned creators not to stream the highly anticipated RPG should their copy of the game arrive early.

The warning has, to say the least, received a mixed reaction from fans, as CDPR has noted that videos will be taken down if streamed early.

In a statement released on Twitter, CD Projekt Red said: “We’re getting closer and closer to launch and chances are some of you will get your hands on a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 before release day,

“However difficult this might be for us to achieve, our ambition is for gamers all across the world to have the same spoiler-free experience at the time the game releases.

“This is why we kindly ask you not to stream/let’s play, or release any similar content before 9th December, 12pm CET/ 3am PST. We will send MAX-TAC (you know, the guys who take down videos) after everyone who does.“

Personally I get that CDPR wants to avoid anyone having the game spoiled as it’s easy to have things accidentally ruined, especially as it’s not often a simple case of “staying off the internet” for some of us to avoid spoilers.

While not 100% effective, there are ways to reduce the chances of you having anything spoiled. You can mute words on social media sites like Twitter, which helps, but there’s still a myriad of ways in which spoilers can invade your timeline.

On the flip-side, if you’re not a reviewer or streamer that has received a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 from a publisher or developer, I can understand an argument to stream content, especially as it can be an effective way to get more eyes on a small channel.

One fan on Twitter responded to the tweet not too pleased with the words used, saying: “First you say ‘you kindly ask’ and then you say in the next sentence that you’ll take down all videos.”

Let’s say that you purchased a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 with your own hard-earned money and you’ve not signed an NDA. If it arrives early, there’s definitely an argument to be made that you should have a right to stream it if you choose.

However it is within the rights of CD Projekt Red to take down any videos of Cyberpunk 2077 ahead of the game’s official release.
