Chrono Cross Remaster Announced, Coming To Europe For First Time

Chrono Cross is getting a remaster as announced at last night’s Nintendo Direct, marking the first time the game will be released in Europe.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a remastered version of the PS1 classic Chrono Cross. It will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam on April 7.

Not only will it have remastered visuals, but it will come packaged with Radical Dreamers, a visual novel adventure game that was only ever released in Japan. It wasn’t just released only in Japan, but came out for the Satellaview, a satellite peripheral for the Super Famicom that would use TV signals to stream games to the console. This means it will be Radical Dreamers first official commercial release.

Originally released for the PS1 in Japan and North America, Chrono Cross was a follow up to the time-travelling JRPG Chrono Trigger. But Chrono Cross focused on parallel words as opposed to time-travelling. It stars Serge, who travels to a parallel dimension where he discovers he died as a child.

He begins a journey to find out what caused the divergence between the two worlds. Like how you pick up various characters across time in Trigger, you do the same across the parallel worlds.

Chrono Cross also never released in the EU, even though it was trademarked there. The game has never received an official release in the EU. So players who haven’t will finally have the opportunity to play the game in an official capacity.
