Call of Duty: Warzone has been one of the biggest game drops of 2020 so far, and the free-to-play Battle Royale title has absolutely dominated the genre despite being just a week old.
According to video games analyst Daniel Ahmad and CCN, Warzone is now the “fastest growing non-mobile game ever,” which is an absolutely mind-blowing feat.
Taking to Twitter to share some player numbers for Warzone, Ahmad compared the number of Warzone players to the numbers of similar BR games: Apex Legends and Fortnite.
According to the official player number from Activision, Warzone saw 6 million players after just one day, leaping to a massive 15 million players in just three days.
Ahmad compared these numbers to Respawn Entertainment’s BR games, Apex Legends, which saw 2.5 million players in one day. This then grew to an eye-watering massive 10 million players in three days.
Fortnite didn’t hit 10 million players until two weeks after launch (which, of course, is still insanely impressive).
Well done to everyone at Infinity Ward and Activision for the mammoth success that is Call of Duty: Warzone.
From the Activision blog: “The free-to-play and cross platform experience, Call of Duty: Warzone, is available to download now, for free. You do not need to own the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to download, play and enjoy Warzone. Call of Duty: Warzone is free for everyone.
“Warzone is a massive combat arena, set in the expansive and dense city of Verdansk, where up to 150 players will battle for victory, across two distinct epic modes of play, Battle Royale and Plunder.”
For non-owners of the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone will be available to download free in respective first-party stores.
