Cyberpunk 2077 players warn that crafting items in the game can permanently corrupt your save file, meaning that some players are losing their game progression forever.
To say that Cyberpunk 2077 and its developer’s problems appear to be never-ending is unfortunately not far from the truth.

Since the game launched earlier this month there seems to be a new problem occurring each and every day.
The problem of corrupted save files seems to occur from crafting too many items, which is inconvenient because this is a mechanic in the game that you’re encouraged to do.
The issue was brought to our attention by a post on Reddit where it was revealed that if your save file exceeds over 8MB – and apparently if you craft too many items – you could be at risk of encountering a corrupt save file.

It was initially thought that the corrupt save file would only occur for those that made use of a duplication glitch which would generate lots of in-game money.
However reports of corrupt save files have also apparently been made by those that have been crafting the normal way.
CD Projekt Red has responded officially in relation to the corrupt save file problem in a troubleshooting post via an FAQ on GOG.com.

“Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered,” said CDPR in the FAQ.
However CDPR did offer some form advice in preparing for a corrupt save file
“Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials,” said the company.
It continued: “If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it. The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.“

So in a nutshell, don’t use the duplication glitch and save regularly. Cyberpunk 2077 does feature a fairly responsible auto-save and there are also two ways of manually saving.
By habit, saving regularly in any RPG is something that I do, but even so it doesn’t mean that I’ll be completely protected by a potential corrupt save file.
