Already!?

Cyberpunk 2077 Already Has ‘Masterpiece’ Tag On Steam

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t out for another few months, yet the game already bears the ‘Masterpiece’ tag over on Steam (and reportedly has done for a while). The news comes from a Cyberpunk fan account on Twitter, where it’s been spotted that ‘Masterpiece’ is already a “Popular user-defined tag for this product.”

Though we all know that Cyberpunk 2077 is probably one of the most-anticipated games of the year (if not the decade), it’s still very early days for the game to be considered a ‘Masterpiece,’ and it’s not necessarily a good thing that praise like that is already being given.

One gamer responded to the tweet, writing: “Putting high expectations for a game that’s not out yet…That’s not a good idea, especially that many people will compare it to The Witcher which is one of the best RPGs ever made.”

Though it’s great to see fan expectation so high, it’s also a little daunting. Whether or not the game really will live up to expectation…well, we have a few months until we can definitively answer that.

In case you missed it, Cyberpunk 2077’s official description reads as follows: “Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.”

The dystopian RPG will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on September 16. CD Projekt Red has already said it doesn’t expect any further delays to the launch, despite concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

During a recent investor call, CD Projekt Red’s SVP of business development, Michal Nowakowski, has promised gamers that development is going mostly as planned. A Day One patch is to be implemented on release to fix some issues caused by the lockdown, specifically, with voice acting.
