Analysts at Polish brokerage company DIMBOSS believe that the budget to develop and promote Cyberpunk 2077 will be in the excess of $314 million USD [via Nintendo Smash].

To compare at some point in its cycle, Grand Theft Auto 5 took around $265 million USD to develop and promote (note that the game released in 2013, when things were naturally a little bit cheaper than they are now).

If the estimate of $314 million USD for Cyberpubk 2077 is true (or close to true), it would mean that Cyberpunk 2077 would be one of the most expensive games of all time.

However there are various factors to consider here, including the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012 and has been in development for around eight years give or take.

You also have to remember that it’s had many big-stage presentations at conferences such as E3 and Gamescom. One such presentation even featured Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves appearing on stage which resulted in the iconic “you’re breathtaking” moment. The star plays a seminal role in the upcoming RPG, which we imagine, probably wasn’t cheap to secure.

So with the long development, big stage presentations, Hollywood superstars, a huge development team and a big media marketing campaign, it’s no wonder that Cyberpunk 2077 is reportedly very costly.

To compare numbers once more, the budget according to DIMBOSS is four times the size of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which is said to be around $822,000 USD.

DIMBOSS also predicts that Cyberpunk 2077 will sell around 21 million copies by the end of this year and will reach a total of 34 million copies with 12 months of release.

Cyberpunk 2077 is also being developed for no fewer than seven different platforms which is a reason as to why it suffered its most recent delay.

Cyberpunk 2077 will currently release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Google Stadia on December 10th.
