Cyberpunk 2077 ‘Has Lost 79% Of Its Steam Player Base’ Since Launch

Despite achieving impressive sales numbers, Cyberpunk 2077 has reportedly lost 79% of its player base on Steam since it launched on November 10th.

To be fair it’s not uncommon for a game to have a big drop in player numbers weeks after launch, especially for a single player game, but 79% of players is quite the amount to lose on Steam.

It is widely said (and expected) that the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 is the best version to play, though from what I hear it’s still far from perfect.

According to the numbers compiled by GitHyp, at its current peak Cyberpunk 2077 has around 200,000 players online at any one time.

However that is in comparison to the over 1,000,000 players recorded at its peak for the month of December 2020, which has resulted in the 79% drop.

It took Cyberpunk 2077 a month to lose this amount of players whereas it took The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt around three months to lose roughly 79% of its players on Steam.

Like I said, it’s not uncommon for any game to have a big drop in its player base as numbers are always expected to be high for the opening weeks for a AAA game.

However with the various reported bugs and crashes which can result in a loss of game progression, it seems that players are no longer taking that risk and it’s likely that many are waiting for CD Projekt Red to fix the game.
