Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer May Be Delayed Due To Launch Controversy

According to a new CD Projekt Red conference call, Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming multiplayer and DLC might be delayed.

It appears that the planned release of the game’s multiplayer mode and DLC could suffer thanks to the controversy surrounding the main title’s launch.

As with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, developer CD Projekt Red is going to be giving away free DLC just for buying the game, and a multiplayer mode for the game was aiming to release sometime around 2022.

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the free DLC included missions, cosmetics and more. It was a move that many praised as the company could have easily been charged for this content and it was seen as a very commercially friendly move.

Unfortunately what isn’t as commercially friendly is the many reported issues of Cyberpunk 2077, apparently even more so with the base consoles versions for PS4 and Xbox One.

However CD Projekt Red may be coming under even further scrutiny with the planned multiplayer mode and DLC.

Sadly with all the issues that keep on piling up, the additional content may be getting delayed before release dates are even announced.

According to a post on Reddit, an emergency board meeting was called to address the game’s launch issues. During the call (which you can listen to here) CDPR was asked how confident it feels that the multiplayer and DLC will release by 2022.

As translated by a Redditor, CDPR reportedly replied: “Too early to judge. Let us make more assessment. We are focused on improving Cyberpunk and we will tell more early next year.

It certainly doesn’t look good on the release window front for the multiplayer and DLC, yet to be fair to CDPR, I wouldn’t have expected the multiplayer to release before the end of 2021 anyway.

However with all the issues that need fixing in Cyberpunk 2077, that has to take priority and it seems the multiplayer mode will get pushed back.

As a result of all the fixes taking priority I would also expect the free DLC to get pushed back by a few months too, but I do hope that the free DLC releases by summer of 2021.

Either way let’s just hope that CDPR can address and fix the reported issues of Cyberpunk 2077 because the fans and the game deserve better. Let’s hope Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer doesn’t get delayed by too long…
