Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Will Be ‘Launching In 2022’

Earlier this year we heard the sad but understandable news that CD Projekt Red would be delaying the launch of its massive RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. Originally planned to launch April 16, the game has now been pushed to September to ensure the players are getting the best day one experience.

However, it’s not all sad news, as CD Projekt Red has now shared some more info on the side-project being developed by the team, confirming that the speculation was true and it really is Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer.

During a Q and A, board member Michal Nowakowski said the multiplayer mode is being worked on alongside the main game, though it’s still a few years from release.

“In terms of multiplayer, one thing we need to make clear is that the AAA release we’re working on in parallel with CP2077 is Cyberpunk multiplayer – so that’s the first thing to say, and I think Adam was alluding that things are gonna be moving,” he said.

“So, given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September and the series of events which we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as the release date for Cyberpunk multiplayer.”

We don’t know too much about the multiplayer mode right now, though it’s looking pretty likely that microtransactions will be a thing.

During a press conference last year, management responded to a query about potential microtransactions in the multiplayer mode, giving a somewhat disheartening response.

“We believe right now it is definitely too early to share any details on that or give guidance [as] the project is in the relatively early stage,” management said.

“We keep experimenting. It’s our first multiplayer game. We check different options and possibilities, and it’s definitely not the time to point you to a specific direction on that. But you can expect that we won’t change our general policy toward deals with gamers. So expect wise monetization and always value for money.”

The main Cyberpunk 2077 game now launches September 17.
