Following yesterday’s reveal, the Cyberpunk 2077 new-gen upgrade has arrived and here’s everything we need to know.
Finally, after months upon months of delays, the native version of Cyberpunk 2077 is here for PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, the upgrade will be free to owners of the last-gen version. Happy days!
This native port comes with enhanced visuals, framerate performance, ray-traced shadows, faster loading times and even improved crowd reactions. The upgrade has been a long time coming, but hopefully, we can now all see what the fuss is about.
How do I upgrade?
For PlayStation 5 owners, from your dashboard, go to the game library, select Cyberpunk 2077 and choose whether to download the PS4 or PS5 version. Choose the PS5 version and the game will begin to download. Simple as.
You may also need to press the Options button over the game icon on the dashboard and select “Check for Update” to ensure Cyberpunk 2077 is up-to-date.
As for Xbox Series X|S, if Cyberpunk 2077 is already downloaded onto your console, just go to My Games & Apps, Manage, and then Updates. If the update hasn’t already been downloaded, then it should be there waiting. If you’ve not downloaded Cyberpunk 2077, just download the game and the new-gen version will automatically be applied via Smart Delivery.
What does the new-gen update bring?
On PS5 and Xbox Series X there will be two modes. The Ray-Tracing mode will offer ray-tracing, as well as 4K visuals at 30FPS. While Performance mode offers 4K visuals at 60FPS.
The Xbox Series S only has Performance mode, which targets 1440p at 30FPS. However, CDPR is currently looking into the prospect of raising the framerate cap on the Xbox Series S.
Naturally, PlayStation 5 owners will also be able to take advantage of the unique features of the DualSense controller as well as spatial headphone and 3D audio.
How much does the new-gen update weigh?
Prior to downloading, the update on PS5 will claim to be 95GB. However, once downloaded, the update will compress to 56GB. For the Xbox Series X|S, the update comes in at 62GB.
I’ve not played Cyberpunk 2077 before, is there a trial?
Yes, there is a trial for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You can download it from the digital storefront of your choosing. The free trial will be available until March 15th. Furthermore, the trial is said to offer a generous five hours of game time.
Will my progress carry over?
Yes, it will. If you like what you see in Night City, your progress will carry over should you buy the full game. Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently on offer for PlayStation and Xbox. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently selling for £19.99 for PlayStation and £24.99 for Xbox.
Good news and bad news
Good news: On Xbox consoles, save data will automatically upload via Smart Delivery. However, on PlayStation a few steps are required. All you have to do is simply upload a PS4 save to the cloud. Then when you fire up Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5, download the save in-game. Easy peasy.
Bad news: As confirmed by Push Square, when transferring your save data from PS4 to PS5, previously earned trophies will not pop. This essentially means, that if you want to earn all PS5 trophies, you will have to start the game from scratch.
Good News, Maybe: In an updated blog post, CDPR is now looking into the possibility of being able to transfer PlayStation trophies.
Additionally, CD Projekt Red has also released update 1.5 bringing all the changes and improvements made to the RPG. You can read the full patch notes here.
