CD Projekt Red has once again confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will contain no microtransactions – but that its multiplayer mode will have them.
The news comes from the official Twitter account for Cyberpunk 2077, where the team retweeted a 2019 tweet saying there would be no microtransactions in the game. They added: “Nothing changed. Cyberpunk 2077 is a single player game with zero microtransactions. One single purchase. No tricks. Don’t believe the clickbait.”
The tweet presumably comes following a somewhat confusing update from a recent earnings talk and Q & A, in which CDPR president Adam Kicinski promised even more add-ons than The Witcher 3, including free DLC and expansions. Both paid microtransactions and free expansions were referenced, leading to some confusion from fans.
Thankfully, we now know for sure that the main game will be microtransaction-free. However, the whole Cyberpunk experience will have some microtransactions.
The Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter added: “Cyberpunk multiplayer/online, which is a separate project, will have some microtransactions, but we said that a year ago already. Like always, expect us treating your money with respect.”
The tweet links into the Q and A with Kicinski, who said: “We’re never aggressive towards our fans [with microtransactions]! We treat them fairly and we’re friendly. So of course not – we won’t be aggressive – but you can expect great things to be bought,
“I’m not trying to be cynical or hide something; it’s about creating a feeling of value. Same as with our single-player games: we want gamers to be happy while spending money on our products.”
More details on Cyberpunk 2077’s add-on content is expected to come before the base game’s launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on November 19th, 2020 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It’s also coming to Xbox Series and PS5, with a next-gen update due at some point in the future. Multiplayer is expected in 2022.
