Wizards of the Coast has announced Dark Alliance, a reboot of the classic Dungeons & Dragons action RPG launching on 22nd June 2021.
The game is actually a spiritual successor to the hack n’ slash game Balder’s Gate: Dark Alliance, which was first released in 2001. The game is being developed by Tuque Games, with the team including former Ubisoft veterans.
Dark Alliance looks to be a completely different beast from its predecessor. It features an over-the shoulder-perspective, similar to the likes of God of War and the Gears series.
It’s also worth noting that Dark Alliance occurs in the Icewind Dale rather than the Balder’s Gate. While the game is part of the Forgotten Realms universe, it’s sure to be a completely new experience for RPG and tabletop fans alike.
The game’s newly released trailer is a sight to behold (quite literally). It features gameplay showing off explosive combat against a Beholder and various other enemies from the D&D universe.
The clip also gives us a taste of the game’s co-op gameplay, which supports up to four players. Players can choose between a fighter, rogue, barbarian, or ranger when selecting a hero, all of which have unique abilities. Check it out in the video below!
Of course, these aren’t just any heroes, they’re iconic warriors from the world of D&D. Dark Alliance’s ranger is none other than Drizzt Do’Urden, one of the most prolific characters in the Forgotten Realms.
Dungeons and Dragons fans will also be familiar with Catti-brie, Wulfgar, Bruenor Battlehammer, who all feature as playable characters in this new adventure.
Pre-order the game at the official Dark Alliance website. It’s coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC on June 22, 2021.
