Dead Space easter egg suggests Dead Space 2 remake

A Dead Space remake easter egg suggests that its sequel will also soon receive a modern-day makeover. However, should we really be surprised?

At the end of last month, the highly anticipated Dead Space remake launched met with critical acclaim. It was a remake that paid homage to its 2008 original while modernising it for the current generation.

Surely, a Dead Space remake sequel is inevitable?

However, following its early success, it should come as little surprise that the additional games in the series might receive the remake treatment. That being said, an in-game easter egg may have confirmed what fans were hoping for.

As reported by GameSpot (thanks GGRecon), when players first finish the story of the Dead Space remake the New Game Plus is unlocked. Not only does this New Game Plus allow you to carry over items and upgrades, but it also has some additional surprises too.

Such additions relate to a series of new logs. Some of these logs feature conversations between employees about decommissioning the USG Ishimura as well as working at the Sprawl on Titan. In case you didn’t know, the Sprawl is the location of Dead Space 2.

In-game easter eggs are teasing us!

Furthermore, apparently, the alternative ending in the Dead Space remake also implies that the sequel is set for a remake. However, I won’t go into that because of spoilers.

What’s more, creative directors of the remake, Phil Ducharme and Roman Campos-Orilola were asked by British GQ what the future holds for the series.

For sure, it’s, it’s a hope that we have,” responded Ducharme. “There’s interest on my side and I think on Roman’s side – you can see his smile – in exploring Dead Space more. There are ideas, that’s for sure.

To be fair, remaking the two Dead Space sequels makes sense. After all, why ignore them, especially following the success of the recent remake? Personally, I’d love to see DS2 remade, however, I’m not sure if I want to relive that eye section. If you know, you know.

That being said, I know Dead Space 3 was far from the best game in the series. However, with that in mind, perhaps DS3 would benefit the most from a remake or perhaps more accurately, a reimagining. What’s more, with the popularity of VR, I think 2011s Dead Space: Extraction could do with some love too.

We reviewed the Dead Space remake

In our review of the Dead Space remake, we said: “Even when I know what’s coming, I can’t help but be drawn into the atmospheric tension that had me adore the horror classic of 2008. Dead Space is a prime example of how a remake should be done and unfortunately for you, your neighbours will hear you scream.

The Dead Space remake is out now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
