Sony says it has not cut production of the PlayStation VR2 ahead of its highly anticipated launch later this month, contrary to reports.
Earlier this week, a report from Bloomberg claimed that Sony had dramatically cut the production of its PlayStation VR2 due to underwhelming pre-order numbers. However, Sony has refuted such claims.
The Bloomberg report claimed sources informed them that Sony had halved its forecast of shipments for Q1 of the PSVR2 to half a million units. It is also claimed that Sony informed a supply partner to expect a reduced shipment.
What’s more, Sony allegedly plans to ship around 1.5 million PSVR2 units between April 2023 and March 2024. That number could change depending on the success of the new virtual reality headset for PlayStation 5.

However, contrary to the Bloomberg report, PlayStation has informed GamesIndustry.biz that it has “not cut the PlayStation VR2 numbers”.
Furthermore, the company said that it is “seeing enthusiasm from PlayStation fans for the upcoming launch, which includes more than 30 titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village.”
When is the Sony PlayStation VR2 release date?

The PlayStation VR2 will launch on 22nd February this month. It has an RRP of £529.99/€599.99/$549.99 USD and will require a PS5 to function.
In related news, the founder of the Oculus VR headset said that he was “blown away” by the PSVR2. As of December 2019, the original PSVR for the PS4 had sold around five million units following its launch in 2016. Sony will surely be hoping to beat that total in the years to come.
