Death Standing has sold over five million copies on PlayStation 4 and PC, according to Kojima Productions. Could the PS5 version give the game a second wind?
In a recent interview with gamesindustry.biz, Kojima Productions’ Jay Boor revealed Death Stranding’s global sales figures while praising the game’s performance [via VGC]:
“With Death Stranding being the first title developed out of Kojima Productions, from a sales perspective, it has performed quite well. As of March 2021, Death Stranding has sold through over five million units worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PC.”
For context, the likes of Metal Gear Solid V managed to sell six million copies by the end of 2015. As for other Sony exclusive titles, Ghost of Tsushima managed to shift over 6.5 million units as of March this year. Spider-Man: Miles Morales also managed to hit over 3.3 million sales in its first three days on the market. Impressive!
Of course, while Death Stranding hasn’t managed to reach the heights of some of its other PlayStation counterparts, the game is also getting a PlayStation 5 release. Therefore, Death Stranding could receive a sales boost, thanks to its “directors cut”.
While Death Stranding has sold significantly well since its launch, the game could reach new heights on the PS5. According to Jay Boor, the director’s cut will “enhance the core gameplay experience and its features”, which could be enough to convince PS4 players to dive back in.
