Deathverse: Let It Die was the opening reveal at last night’s State of Play, the new game from Grasshopper Manufacturer, GungHo, and Supertrick.
The sequel to 2016’s Let It Die is apparently departing from the original’s rogue-like gameplay. Deathverse: Let It Die will be a multiplayer survival action game where you’ll fight against other players in PvPvE combat. It will be coming to both PS4 and PS5 next year. Check out the trailer for yourself!
The game is set hundreds of years into the future of Let It Die. A PlayStation blog post said it’s a world “where players fight for stardom in the survival TV reality show Death Jamboree.” Combat is primarily close range. You’ll be using a ‘Wilson’, “a robotic device that assists you in combat.” The Wilson can transform into weapons, shields, shoot electric bullets, and activate abilities. Weapons include a samurai sword, a rocket propelled hammer, and a device with two buzzsaws attached.
The announcement of a new game set in the Let It Die universe was certainly a surprise. The game received mixed reviews, but also achieved a cult status due to its off kilter humour. A character called Uncle Death, also proved to be quite popular, and seems to be returning for Deathverse Let It Die in some capacity.
Cult game designer SUDA51 acted as Executive Director on the original game, but it seems he’s not involved with the sequel. Grasshopper Manufacturer was also recently acquired by Chinese publisher NetEase.
