Before we get into this one, as always, this is a supposed leak. Take this which a pinch of salt until we get official word from Sony or Naughty Dog.

Although we’re still (yes, still) waiting for a release date for Naughty Dog’s next game, the highly-anticipated The Last of Us Part 2, it seems the company might already be working on its next project.

Video you'll love from around the web

An unverified 4Chan leak has made its way to Reddit, where it’s suggested that Naughty Dog’s next-next title will be a brand-new IP with steampunk elements.

According to the leak, which claims to be from a recent top-secret Naughty Dog meeting, the project is going under the development name “Stray’s Cross,” and it’ll be a next-generation PlayStation 5 release.

‘Stray’s Cross‘ will be an action/adventure game in first person, with steampunk elements,” claims the leak.

“…It will have two protagonists, a former female scientist (talented scholar, fascinated by space-time science, she discovers confidential documents that will lead her to discover a hidden truth much bigger than she could imagine), and a wanted criminal man (a former construction worker unjustly arrested for protecting a wanted friend during a shooting against the police).

“The plot is about a secret conflict that lasted entire ages, and how this will lead to the inevitable ruin of human society.”

A first-person steampunk-style game definitely sounds interesting, albeit a little unexpected for the traditionally third-person studio…

Whether there’s any truth or not to this rumour remains to be seen. For now I’m more focused on actually getting to see something new from The Last of Us Part 2 than anything else on Naughty Dog’s horizon.

Would you like to see Naughty Dog take on a first-person action/adventure game?
