A studio made up of developers that created PlayStation classics Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian have teased their next game, giving us a first look at what we can expect.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were co-developed by Japan Studio and Team Ico on the PS2. However many members of Team Ico formed GenDesign which went on to develop The Last Guardian for PS4.
Recently GenDesign updated its official website wishing fans a positive 2021, as well as announcing that the team is working with Epic Games on a brand new game.
“We’ve signed with Epic Games to publish our new title!” said GenDesign announcing the news in a post.
We also got to see what appears to be the first teaser for the unannounced project, which is shown on the website alongside art from the studio’s previous titles. Though there’s not too much given away, we do see some bright colours and what appears to be a character in a poncho. Check it out below.
The news was also announced by Epic Games in a quite “epic” montage video featuring a number of development studios such as Remedy and now GenDesign working with the publisher.
I think it’s fair to say that with GenDesign now working with Epic Games, it perhaps rules out the new game being a PlayStation exclusive, but on a plus side it’s likely to be cross-platform.
However Team Ico/GenDesign is known to take its time when developing new games. For example there was a four year gap between Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on PS2, and The Last Guardian came 11 years after Shadow of the Colossus.
So with that said, this new game is likely to be at least three years away from release, but it’s great to know that GenDesign has something new in the works.
