Diablo 4 Season 1 – What’s New?

As the title suggests, Season of the Malignant will introduce Malignant Monsters. These “decaying abominations” are frenzied creatures who will attack on sight and will present as a challenging foe.

According to lead producer Tim Ismay, these monsters “show up throughout the entire game” and may also spawn additional enemies with new powers and the occasional tentacle.

However, defeating one of these elite bosses will reward you with a heart which you can then use in a ritual using the Cage of Binding. This will spawn even more monsters but defeating these will reward you with a Caged Heart which is a powerful seasonal item.

Adding these Caged Hearts to your gear (any class) will grant you “an enormous amount of power.”

“Slaying Partly Corrupted enemies, a type of Malignant Monster, will drop a Malignant Heart. These can be captured by performing a ritual with the Cage of Binding, an item acquired during the Season’s Questline,” Blizzard explained in their blog post.

New Quest

As well as brand-new enemies, you will also be able to tackle a new quest which will see you team up with Cormand, a former priest of the Cathedral of Light. His role will be to teach you about the Malignant Monsters and how to convert their powers into “build-altering powers.”

New Gear

Last but not least, there will be six new Unique items to discover over the course of the season as well as seven “legendary aspects to earn.”
