Announcing the news on the Rocket League website earlier this summer, it’s also been confirmed that the game will be headed to the Epic Games Store, and that cross-platform progression will be coming.

The blog reads: “The core gameplay will remain the same, but we are refining the main menus to make exploring the game easier. Plus, we’re revamping and improving major features like Tournaments and Challenges, and introducing cross-platform progression! Rocket League action on the field will still be the same core, high-octane hybrid of sports and action you love today, and soon, even more players will share that love.”

Even more exciting, players won’t require a subscription to PS Plus or Switch online to play the game online.

In a blog post the developer said they wanted new players to have the best possible experience when picking up the game for the first time.

“When people pick up Rocket League for the first time following the launch of free to play, we want to make sure they’re as comfortable as possible once they hit the field. That’s why there will be a new experience for new players when they first fire up the game. The new tutorial will put new players right on the field, and will teach the basic HUD and button layout. New players will also have New Driver Challenges to unlock items that were included in the base version of Rocket League.”

An in-game event entitled Llama-Rama will also be kicking off shortly after the big free-to-play launch, with more details to be revealed soon.
