The traditional first person shooter has a special place in the hearts of the gamers of yesteryear, with classic titles like Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM still continuing to charm players even decades after their release.
It looks like it’s not the end of the line for fans of classic FPS titles though, as one of the most revered video game designers in history has admitted he has some ideas in the works for the future.

Taking to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything session recently was the one and only John Romero, co-founder of id Software and designer of games including Quake, DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D.
When asked for his opinion on the new DOOM games from Bethesda, and whether or not he’d consider making a new FPS, Romero answered: “I really like the new DOOM 2016 and from what I can see of Eternal, it’s going to be a winner as well. And, yes, I do have a design for an FPS in the style of DOOM/Quake.”

Unfortunately Romero didn’t elaborate on the statement, but it’s good to know that one of the most experienced people in the business is still getting his creative juices flowing!
Don’t expect any news on a new FPS anytime soon though, as Romero is hard at work on his current project. The dev is now the top dog of Romero Games, which is set to release a real-time simulation RPG entitled Empire of Sin at some point in 2020.

Releasing on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, the game’s official description reads as follows: “Empire of Sin, the strategy game from Romero Games and Paradox Interactive, puts you at the heart of the ruthless criminal underworld of 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago. It’s up to you to hustle, charm and intimidate your way to the top of the pile and do whatever it takes to stay there.”
