DICE has made the executive decision to remove its duos mode from Battlefield 5, citing the lack of players as a major issue.
Battlefield 5 was recently updated with the new Firestorm, a battle royale will a few difference modes, including duos.
Unfortunately, duos are now a thing of the past, as explained by DICE in a now-removed Reddit post.
“Duo received an overwhelmingly positive reaction at launch,” said EA community manager, Adam Freeman, [via VG24/7].
“It debuted during a weekend, and was initially done so only as an early first look at the mode. Duo was originally designed as a limited time offering similar to Grind and Rush, and featured as limited time content in Chapter 3.
“When Duo was first removed, you told us that you wanted to see it come back and we were happy to support. Since then, we’ve seen more folks jump back into Squads mode, with less preferring to Firestorm it up in Duo – so we’re going to get back to the original plan today and we’ve disabled it’s (sic) matchmaking.”
Naturally, the BF5 community is pretty p*ssed about the news.
“Is this a joke? Thats the only reason I get on anymore, same with my buddy. All we play is Duo,” said one user. “This limited time stuff really needs to stop. The fact it arrived, then was removed, then came back and now being removed AGAIN with no foreseeable return is just, idek anymore.”
Another sounded off in a lengthy response saying: “Please, stop frustrating the Firestorm playerbase that is already shrinking!…
“I’m gonna underline the main reason why Duos is the best gamemode for FS in my opinion. It’s because it is much easier to play with randoms than Squads. Simply.
“Squads is fun when you have a clan, but when you play with randoms it’s just a complete mess. In Duos, it’s easier to get along with your random buddy and have actual teamplay.
“It brings a great dynamic to the BR mode that encourages aggressive gameplay. Moreover, a lot of player have only one buddy to play BFV with, and Duos is actually really fun in that situation. Don’t take that away from us.”
Unfortunately, duos remained disabled for the time being. Hopefully DICE will change its mind…
