EA could capitalise with Battlefield following Call of Duty uncertainty on PlayStation

EA aims to capitalise with the Battlefield series following the uncertainty of Call of Duty on PlayStation.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision is still yet to be finalised. However, if the deal is complete, it means Call of Duty would become a first-party Xbox title. This likely outcome has planted seeds of doubt with the possibility of Call of Duty being taken away from PlayStation.

Is Sony worried about Call of Duty?

However, despite concerns of Sony PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, Microsoft has previously stated that it wouldn’t be financially viable to make the Call of Duty series exclusive to Xbox.

Furthermore, the series has recently enabled cross-progression for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It also happens to be one of the most popular multi-platform titles ever.

However, in the unlikely outcome that Microsoft does decide to pull Call of Duty away from PlayStation, it seems that Electronic Arts is hoping to capitalise on Sony’s misfortunes.

Will EA take advantage with Battlefield?

As reported by MP1st, EA CEO Andrew Wilson claims that the uncertainty of Call of Duty on PlayStation could work to the advantage of the Battlefield series.

Speaking during a Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology summit, Wilson said, “In a world where there may be questions over the future of Call of Duty and what platforms that might be on or might not be on, being platform agnostic and completely cross-platform with Battlefield, I think is a tremendous opportunity.
