Obsidian’s next title, The Outer Worlds, is just a couple of months away from launch, and IDK about you but I’m seriously hyped for this release.
Hailed as something of a spiritual successor to the one and only Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds looks set to deliver an amazing RPG experience for its players.
In a recent interview with Polygon, Obsidian’s Senior Designer Brian Heins revealed that the game is going to offer more than expected – especially for lovers of extreme violence – as you’ll actually be able to kill any NPC you like- even those who play an important role in the story.
Now that is definitely one helluva game design challenge.
“Anyone you see, you can kill, [so] there’s got to be a way to get whatever they were going to give you, whether it’s a terminal entry or you can loot something off of their body or there’s a chest in their office that you would now lock-pick to get the information from. We gotta start figuring out all of those,” said Heins.
He added that it’s not an easy process by any means, saying: “Any NPC that is critical to a quest or some information, we have to have backups for the player.”
If these are the sorts of lengths Obsidian is going to, we can’t wait to see the finished product.
GameByte was invited to play The Outer Worlds and we got to experience the world, the enemies and the people of the Halcyon Colony first hand. Check out the video below to see for yourself what The Outer Worlds entails!
The Outer Worlds releases on PC, PS4, Xbox One on October 25 2019, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for sometime in the future.
