If you’re a fan of classic FPS shooters like the original DOOM, new release Prodeus is one game you’ll need to check out. The fresh Steam release comes from developer Bounding Box Software Inc., and with a user score of “Overwhelmingly Positive,” the love for Prodeus is real!
Prodeus is the perfect blend of old school first-person shooter nostalgia, injected with a kick of modern-day gaming. As the developer puts it: “Prodeus is the first person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques. It reaches the quality you expect from a AAA experience while adhering to some of the aesthetic technical limits of older hardware.”
After two years in development, Prodeus’ Early Access phase began earlier this month, and it’s received a lot of love from players despite still being in its infancy.
As one happy gamer wrote in their review: “It’s Doom 2 but it’s middle aged and is still wearing its NiN t-shirt it bought all the way back in high school. So yeah it f*cking rules.”
The game features an “aesthetic mix of high-quality 3D art and retro rendering techniques,” along with all the explosions, blood and gore you’d hope to see from the genre. Prodeus’ hand-crafted campaign comes courtesy of “industry FPS veterans,” but there’s much more to the game than first meets the eye.
Prodeus will include “a fully-integrated level editor, and a built-in community map browser for instantaneous action with nearly limitless levels to play,” offering a fully-fledged community experience for its ever-growing fanbase.
Although it’s just entered Early Access, it’s easy to see why indie game Prodeus is already seeing high praise from gamers. Check it out for yourself on Steam right here!
