‘Fans Will Be Pleased’ With Sonic The Hedgehog’s Redesign, Says Producer

The Sonic the Hedgehog live action movie is on the way, but its reveal trailer earlier this year left fans up in arms.

The backlash over Sonic the Hedgehog’s appearance was like nothing we’d ever seen before, with people calling out the studio for its poor design choices.

Sonic, who looked strangely human, complete with muscly legs, tiny eyes and those teeth (*shudder*), was such a disappointment to long-standing fans of the series that the team behind the movie vowed to halt the project and work on a redesign.

The movie’s director, Jeff Fowler, tweeted his appreciation of the criticism at the time, and vowed to change Sonic’s design before the film’s release.

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes,” tweeted Fowler.

“It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast”

Now we’ve heard the first news about the redesign, courtesy of the movie’s producer, Tim Miller.

Speaking to Variety, Miller said: “Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the sh*t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f*cked up,’”

“He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.”

Miller added, when asked if he’d seen the redesign: “in fact I have. And I think the fans will be pleased.”

Following the change of plans, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been delayed.

It’ll be releasing in cinemas worldwide February 14, 2020.
