Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 1 was the start of something special for the series. Since its release in 2020, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next part in the chapter, speculating as to what might in store in part 2. Now it seems that fans should be bracing themselves for an experience that “goes beyond expectations”, according to comments made by the game’s producer [via TheGamer].

At the recent CEDEC conference, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi made comments about what they want to bring to part 2 of the saga. The response came in a conversation about Final Fantasy 13’s linearity, which for many was something of a corridor simulator.

The interview was translated by Twitter user Aitaikimochi, who made the following comments:

It took me a while to translate Kitase’s quote because I was having trouble finding the right words to translate 「いい意味で裏切る」(literally ‘a betrayal in a good way’). I interpreted it as surprising the audience by going beyond their expectations but to “throw them off.

While these comments are fairly vague, it could be that part 2 of Cloud’s adventure is going to change some of the game’s fundamentals.

The interview also mentioned the game’s battle system, which evolved from being menu-driven in the original, to action based in the remake.

A word that pops into mind is ‘action battle,‘” says Hamaguchi, “They experienced a new type of action battle system, and they want to contribute to the system too. That’s a keyword that comes to mind.”

He then was asked if those members of staff who liked the original game would help “evolve” part 2’s battle system, to which he replied, “They definitely contribute different ideas that allow us to hopefully create new surprises to the battle system as well!

If this interview is anything to go by, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 could feature a whole new host of elements, that of which even surpass the first part of this classic revamp!
