Recent reports have suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is losing its PS4 exclusivity this year.
To be fair Final Fantasy VII Remake being a timed-exclusive is nothing new and, if anything, these recent reports only offer us a reminder of what we already know.
Back in December 2019, as shared by industry insider Wario64, a sticker on an early box art image of Final Fantasy VII Remake said “timed exclusive 03/03/21”, which is of course is now less than two months away.
At least on the copy of my Final Fantasy VII Remake, this timed exclusive sticker no longer appears on the box art.
However another industry insider known as KatharsisT posted on the forum ResetEra, elaborating further on potential details on the timed exclusivity deal [via ComicBook].
According to KatharsisT’s sources, it is claimed that the Square Enix RPG will be coming to PlayStation 5 this year.
It of course makes sense that a PS4 game would come to PS5, especially one that was an exclusive. However details were not revealed as to whether or not owners of the PS4 version would get a free new-gen upgrade.
The sources also claim the remake will come to PC, which again should come as no surprise. Various PlayStation console exclusives have recently come to PC including Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Many hope that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will also come to Xbox and, despite the forum not mentioning that it will, when you consider that various Final Fantasy remasters are available on Xbox already, it’s certainly not impossible.
There’s not much else posted in terms of the timed-exclusivity deal but it’s believed that Square Enix will officially reveal details soon. Considering that 03/03/21 date is fast approaching, we’re sure to find out soon enough either way.
