Final Fantasy XIV Players Get Free Week After Long Server Queues

Don’t worry, you’re not the only Final Fantasy XIV player struggling to login, but Square Enix is giving you a free week of game time to compensate.

Final Fantasy XIV is a ridiculously popular game. Back in October it was reported that the MMO has over 24 million players. And it’s the most profitable Final Fantasy game ever. For a game that was received so poorly the entire in-game world was destroyed and rebuilt, it’s not doing too badly.

It’s doing so well in fact, that with the recent launch of the most recent expansion Endwalker, players are struggling to log in. This isn’t too much of a surprise. New expansions always cause a lot of congestion. And the game was so popular that Square Enix’s own store ran out of digital copies of the game.

To make up for it though, Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida has promised players a free week of game time. Yoshida wrote about the congestion issues in a blog post, where he offered players the free game time. He also apologised for the problems, and asked players to wait just a little bit longer while they worked on them.

The post also gave some tips to help players with problems they might be having. If you’re playing via Wi-Fi, the post suggests switching to a hard-wired internet connection. And if you’re a PlayStation 4/ 5 player, you should check your power-saving settings. Settings related to standby or rest mode might activate while you’re in the queue, so turning those off is advised.
