Game Of Thrones Showrunners To ‘Make Star Wars Movies In The Old Republic Era’

Although the Star Wars movies are all pretty different (well, sort of different), they’re all actually set in the same era, known as the Skywalker Saga.

Since we’re now living in the age of spin-offs, reboots and reimaginings, it’s weird to think that the full scope of the Star Wars universe is yet to be explored in the franchise’s movies.

However, if you thought that was weird, you’re clearly not the only one as it seems the House of Mouse has picked up on it too. It’s rumoured that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be spearheading new Star Wars movies – this time set during the Old Republic era, which takes places thousands of years before the events of the current string of movies.

If Benioff and Weiss’ names look familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen them splashed across your TV screen over a map of Westeros. Yes, the Game of Thrones showrunners are rumoured to be tackling the ambitious project – at least according to Star Wars News Net.

The website says that it has a reliable source who’s worked on “every Disney Star Wars film,” and that they’re “95% confident” the rumour is true.

The source reportedly states the movie(s) will begin filming in autumn this year, saying: “Filming starts in the Fall and art departments are in design phases now as the script is being finalized. That is all I know but I am 95% confident that this is accurate.”

Interestingly, the source said: “So the timeline is hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.”

If there’s anyone that could tackle historical science-fiction, it’s the Game of Thrones guys!

Do you think there’s any truth to this rumour and would you want to see Star Wars movies set in the Old Republic era?
