God of War absolutely smashed targets when it launched back in April of this year. It was one of the most highly-anticipated games of 2018, but the absolute heights that it reached have surprised everyone.
Some of the biggest games in the world haven’t even come close to the money that God of War has raked in, as it’s believed that the game pulled a hugely impressive $131 million in the first month of its release.
So you know, this is close to double what some of the biggest titles in gaming earned, with Uncharted 4 earning $56 million and The Witcher III earning $69 million.
According to recent reports from Sony, God of War has now sold over five million units – with 3.1 million of these being sold within three days of the game’s release. Absolutely huge numbers for the title that massively exceeded even the highest of expectations for the title.
NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella spoke to IGN about God of War’s massive success, confirming that the title is actually the fastest selling PlayStation exclusive since tracking began way back in 1995.
God of War has officially nabbed the title from the previous PS4 top dog – The Last Of Us.
Piscatella told IGN: “I currently project God of War finishing 2018 as the 8th best-selling game in the U.S. market, but a few more months of performance like this and I may have to raise those expectations.”
Have you given God of War a go yet? If not, really what are you waiting for? It’s already become one of the highest-rated games of all times and is adored by both fans and critics.
