GoldenEye 007 comes to Xbox and Nintendo Switch this week

GoldenEye 007 finally comes to Xbox and Nintendo Switch this week after many years of rumour and speculation. Happy days!

For years, we’ve heard stories that a GoldenEye 007 remaster was coming to Xbox. However, thanks to complicated rights between Rare, MGM and Nintendo, many thought that this remaster would never see the light of day.

Goldeneye 007 remaster was finally announced!

However, in September 2022, the long-awaited GoldenEye 007 remaster was finally announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation. In addition, it was also announced for Xbox. Sadly, there was no word on a PlayStation release and that day may never come.

We’ve not known when the GoldenEye 007 remaster will be released, that was until developers Rare tweeted that it arrives this week. So now it’s time to gather your buddies and enforce the no Oddjob rule!

When is the GoldenEye 007 release date?

GoldenEye 007 is coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch this Friday 27th of March. For Xbox, it will be available via Game Pass or for owners of Rare Replay. As for Nintendo, it will be available via the N64 library for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.

Goldeneye 007 has some differences between Xbox and Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch version will have a resolution of 720p handheld and 1080p docked, this port will also feature multiplayer both locally and online. Rejoice!

Sadly, the Xbox version will only feature local multiplayer. However, the Xbox version will support 4K at 60FPS, in addition to having a plethora of Achievements to acquire. So it’s not all bad news.

It also remains to be seen how well GoldenEye 007 has aged over the last 26 years from its original 1997 release. Sometimes we can look back at beloved games through nostalgic tinted glasses.

What’s more, this is a game that was originally developed for the N64’s very unique controller. So how well will GoldenEye 007 play on the modern controller? I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
