GoldenEye 007 remaster has finally been announced after years of seemingly endless rumours and speculation. Happy days!
The GoldenEye 007 remaster was announced during this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation. It was also revealed that the remaster is to be included in the next batch of N64 games coming to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion library.
There’s no PlayStation release, yet
Furthermore, it was also revealed that GoldenEye 007 is coming to Xbox. Sadly, at this time there is no word as to whether it will be coming to PlayStation consoles.
If this remaster only releases on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, unfortunately for PlayStation gamers, it does make sense. After all, Nintendo owns part of the GoldenEye 007 N64 license, while Microsoft owns Rare, the team that developed GoldenEye 007.
The remaster is preserving its original visual presentation as well as core gameplay mechanics. However, the remaster has 4K visuals, an improved framerate and modernised controls. For Xbox gamers, it also has full Achievement support.

What about the GoldenEye 007 multiplayer?
Sadly, we have both good news and bad news on this front. The good news is that the remaster will support local split-screen and online multiplayer for the Nintendo Switch. Sadly, the Xbox version only supports local multiplayer.
Hopefully multiplayer might arrive for Xbox come launch or via a post-launch patch. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
We have more good news!

While Nintendo Switch gamers will gain access via the top-tier online subscription service, the remaster is more accessible for Xbox gamers.
For starters, if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, you can play GoldenEye 007 at no extra cost. Furthermore, if you own Rare Replay, you will get the game for free via an update.
Rare Replay is a collection of classic games from developer Rare. It includes the likes of Banjo-Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata and more.
At this time, Rare Replay is on sale for just £4.99 via the Microsoft Store, so it might be worth picking up if you haven’t done so already.

What is the GoldenEye 007 release date?
At this time, a release date for GoldenEye 007 hasn’t been announced. However, Rare has promised that it will be released “soon”.
