Valve has given permission for a Half-Life 2 Remastered Collection to be developed by a small team of game developers. Rejoice Half-Life 2 fans, rejoice!
The prospect of us ever getting Half-Life 3 is practically a meme that has gone on for over a decade.
According to @SteamDB, the team that brought us Half-Life 2: Update is working on a further update and remaster of HL2 & the Episodes, with Valve’s consent.

The Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection is coming soon to Steam.https://t.co/5YTjhpS2ud
Half-Life 2 was originally released in 2004 for the PC and is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. To be fair, having played The Orange Box (which includes Half-Life 2, its expansions, Portal and Team Fortress) quite recently, it’s a game that still holds up well today.
Will Half-Life 3 ever arrive?
In 2006, we got the first standalone expansion for Half-Life 2 with Episode One. Valve then followed up with Episode Two in 2007. We were apparently supposed to get Episode 3, but 14 years gone and that release is yet to arrive.
Of course, a prequel starring Alyx Vance did release last year. Unfortunately, Half-Life: Alyx was not only released as a PC exclusive, but it’s also a VR exclusive too. This meant most fans never got to experience this critically acclaimed and long-awaited instalment.
Thankfully, however, it looks like we’ll be getting a Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection which includes the main game and the two expansions. While this is not an official Valve remaster, it does apparently come with the blessing of the studio.
The remastered collection is real!
As reported by PCGamesN (via Tyler McVicker), this remastered collection is from the same team that brought us the Half-Life 2 Update project which was released in 2015.
The Remastered Collection is said to be an evolution of the Half-Life 2 Update, with the project being led by modder Filip Victor. The remaster was first spotted by fans on SteamDB before being confirmed by insider Tyler McVicker.
I have been able to confirm this projects legitimacy, being made by the former Half-Life 2: Update team.

This is not the first time that Valve has given the blessing of talented modders to remaster its IPs. Black Mesa started out as a mod to improve the original Half-Life game and after nearly a decade of development, it ended up being a fully-fledged remaster on Steam.
