343 Industries has confirmed that Halo Infinite will not include campaign co-op or the Forge level editor at launch.
In the development update video, 343 Industries discussed the recent multiplayer technical preview and the upcoming release of Halo Infinite.
In the update, the creative lead at 343 Industries Joseph Staten revealed that there will be no co-op or Forge at launch.
“Unfortunately, as we focused the team for shutdown and really focused on a quality experience for launch, we made the really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch. And we also made the tough call to delay shipping Forge past launch as well.”
Staten stated that both features will be missing because they are simply not ready and they will need extra time to cook in the oven.
Extra development time is needed
“When we looked at these two experiences, campaign co-op and Forge, we made the determination they’re just not ready.
“As a studio, we don’t want to ship things if they’re not ready, so people can play them, have fun, have a nice stable, performant experience. So, we’re gonna keep campaign co-op and Forge in the oven for a little bit longer and then when they’re ready we’re gonna release them as a part of our seasonal roadmap, next year.”
It’s expected that the campaign will be ready about three months after launch (season 2), and Forge around six months after launch (season 3).
I know that news of co-op not being available in the campaign at launch will disappoint many Halo fans. For some, the co-op campaign is the most anticipated mode, as well as traditional multiplayer.
