Here Are Our First Impressions Of Call Of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer

Call of Duty: Vanguard has finally released and I’ve been getting to grips with what the new WWII multiplayer shooter has to offer.

The new CoD title from Sledgehammer Games offers a brand new Campaign alongside the usual offerings of Multiplayer and Zombies. A dedicated Warzone map is arriving next month, too – but we have to wait a little longer for that to arrive.

Along with the rest of the world, I’ve spent much of today diving into Vanguard’s multiplayer mode. Want to see what our first few matches looked like? Give them a watch below!

What do we think?

While we initially didn’t have high hopes for this game, early impressions are remarkably promising. There are 20 individual maps for players to get to get used to, all of which depict vibrant settings from all across the world. Each map offers lots of variety, too. Sniper players will love some of the larger scale maps. Alternatively, there’s some good grind-style locales that will be great for earning quick XP.

Something that’s always a concern when playing a historical shooter is whether the weapons will feel fun to use. Thankfully, all of the weapons I’ve picked up so far have felt punchy with excellent feedback. I can’t quite figure out where the time to kill is in comparison to the previous two CoD games, but it feels just right from my early matches.

A feature that I thought would be fairly non-descript is combat pacing. This determines how many players are in a match, giving players either a more tactical or hectic experience. Scaling up the player count on the same maps has resulted in some refreshing gameplay variety. I’ve played on some maps several times, but the varying number of players has kept things fresh each time.

Despite not being all that pumped for Vanguard, I can already feel it getting its hooks into me. Seeing my level tick up for each match and completing the weapon camo challenges are already becoming addicting. Early impressions seem like Sledgehammer has nailed that tried and tested Call of Duty formula.
