Food has been a part of video games for decades. From Pac-Man’s cherries to Final Fantasy’s improvement on polygon dishes, food has always played an important but often overlooked role in gaming.
You might think it’s nothing, but food lends a hand in building the world around the player, progressing the narrative and sometimes providing some of the best memes the internet has to offer. Plus it looks delicious to boot! So without further ado, here’s GameByte’s definitive list of the top video game foods we wish we could eat the most!

Sure, it’s essentially KFC which you can get pretty much anywhere in the world, but something about I Love You, Colonel Sanders! charming anime art style makes this deep-fried delicacy look even more scrumptious!
9. Spicy Instant-Noodle Curry, Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Currydex is packed with scrummy-looking snacks, but the Spicy Instant-Noodle Curry takes the cake for GameByte. We’re definitely avoiding that Whipped Cream curry though…!
8. Belgian Waffle, Life Is Strange.
What might be a tough choice for some definitely isn’t a tough choice for GameByte, as we’re team Belgian Waffle every single time we delve into Life Is Strange. Don’t @ us, you know we’re right.
7. Anything by the Meowscular Chef, Monster Hunter World.
Everything the Meowscular Chef puts his paws to in Monster Hunter World looks Michelin-star. These rich and filling meals definitely get our bellies rumbling – just look at that chicken!
6. Apples, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX.
The humble apple gets a top spot on our list because of its sheer culinary magic. An apple in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX won’t just fill your belly, but will help you make friends too! This is probably why they say they keep the doctors away…
5. Everything in Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe.
Battle Chef Bridgade Deluxe offers some of the most mouth-watering delicious you could possibly imagine, with its beautiful art style and heavy focus on different types of foods, this is one game that’ll get you salivating in no time.
4. All the sushi in Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido.
Beautifully plated, outstandingly colourful and with endless different choices, the sushi in Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is top-notch. We’re getting hungry just thinking about it!
3. The Black Forest cake, Portal.
Perfect for those of us with a sweet tooth, Portal’s Black Forest Gateau (otherwise known as the Black Forest Cake) is the perfect post-game snack. Feast your eyes on what has to be one of the most iconic cakes in gaming history!
2. Pizza, Stardew Valley.
Food plays a huge role in Stardew Valley and despite not being the most detailed of dishes, Stardew’s pizza has always had our interest. If it’s good enough to please Shane, it must be pretty special!
1. Every single recipe in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Of course Breath of the Wild was going to scoop the number one spot. Sourcing the freshest ingredients, cooking by the campfire and figuring out what fish goes with which mushroom is one of the best parts of the game. With so many recipes and such a fun cooking system, we’d happily much our way through all of Hyrule!
