Horizon Zero Dawn Will ‘Be A Trilogy,’ New Gameplay Details Revealed

Sony has yet to confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is in the works but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Something has been brewing over at the Guerrilla Games for a while now, and it looks like the studio is getting stuck right into the unconfirmed sequel.

A bunch of new rumours have made their way online, and they seem to suggest that Horizon Zero Dawn isn’t just getting a sequel, but a third game too.

Excitingly, the bar sounds like it has been raised for the budding franchise, and I couldn’t be more excited to hear that.

According to a report from VGC, HZD 2 is going to be “gigantic” in comparison to the first game, and is being developed with superior technology that aims to surpass the incredibly impressive graphics of the first. Similarly, Sony is reportedly pouring more resources into what’s presumed to be a PlayStation 5 game.

When it first released, the game was a brand-new IP, making it a somewhat risky investment for the company. Now it’s been established as as a budding smash hit, it makes sense that Sony is happy to increase the funding behind the game.

Along with being “bigger,” HZD 2 reportedly will allow for a lot more exploration, which is great news (as long as there’s stuff to do while you’re exploring, of course).

Meanwhile, co-op play is also apparently a feature for the first time. Whether this is part of the campaign in the form of a companion mode, or a separate mode entirely is still unclear. The report notes that co-op was planned for the 2017 title, but was scrapped due to a lack of resources.

As always, take the rumour with a pinch of salt. Sony has still yet to confirm HZD 2 even exists at this point…
