It seems that renowned Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward’s next game could be an open-world RPG, according to a recent job listing.
As spotted by Dexerto.com, a job listing by Infinity Ward indicates that the studio is on the lookout for a Narrative Director to work on an open-world RPG. Interestingly, when you click on the job listing link, you are greeted with the message “Sorry… The job you are trying to apply for has Been filled.”
The job listing has disappeared
To play into speculation, perhaps Infinity Ward has already found the ideal candidate for the Narrative Director and the job has in fact been fulfilled. However, there could be a chance that the job listing was not only a little premature, but perhaps it revealed a little too much information.
After all, if Activision was to make an announcement tomorrow that Infinity Ward is developing an open-world RPG, it would be quite a big deal within the video game industry.
The would-be Infinity Ward candidate is to work on a “narrative and cinematic experience in an open-world RPG” and are required to use their creative juices to develop “story, characters, lore and world-building” for the RPG.
We’ve seen weirder things!
Is it likely that Infinity Ward is creating an open-world RPG set in the Call of Duty universe? Weirder things have happened. For example, a KFC video game in which you could date Colonel Sanders was a thing a few years ago.
Infinity Ward’s first video game was the original Call of Duty in 2003. Since that time, they have developed nothing but Call of Duty games. Personally, I’d say they’ve developed some of my favourite games from the series.
Could we see something different?
That being said, as a fan of Infinity Ward, the thought of them developing something completely different is an intriguing prospect and is something that I would like to see.
