The much-anticipated sequel to Sony’s stunning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse could finally be a very small step closer to reaching us.
Octavio Rodriguez, who is acting as the film’s head of story, shared an animation over the weekend which featured the 2022 release date.
Rodriguez’s previous work includes a number of big-hitters for Pixar, including The Incredibles 2, Coco, and Monsters University.

While 2022 still feels a very, very long way away, the excitement surrounding the project is huge. The 2018 film has already gone down as one of the best superhero films of all time thanks to its combination of incredible storytelling and stunning animation.
Details in terms of plot are still extremely sparse, Jake Johnson has even admitted that he’s unsure whether he’ll be returning as Peter B. Parker.
In a conversation with Fandom he said he hoped he’d get the chance to bring the character back.
“I really loved playing Peter B. Parker. I literally recorded that movie for, I think it was over two years. People don’t realize, most of with animation you do two or three records and it’s over. I lived with that character before anyone knew it was happening for so long. I loved the material. I got to record with Shameik (Moore) a lot who played Miles, and we got to bounce off each other. Shameik and I became buddies and we’re still texting and in touch.”

He continued: “I would love to see Peter, what happens to him. I would love to see, did he and MJ get back together? Did he become a dad? Is he still a superhero? Is he a dad and a superhero? But these are all as a fan now, because in terms of the inside I’m not at that table making decisions, but I would love Peter to come back.”
It’s not the first update we’ve had on the film recently, back in June Nick Kondo, who served as Lead Animator on the first movie, tweeted to his 50 thousand followers that his first day on the job had begun.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is now set for release on October 7, 2022, after its initial date was pushed back due to the effects of COVID-19.
