Konami Apologies For Dropping ‘Silent Hill Tease’ On Social Media

Konami has apologised for a tweet about Silent Hill which nearly sent the SH fandom into meltdown.

The company – or should I say, whoever runs the company’s Twitter – recently set tongues wagging with a reference to the siren from Silent Hill 2. The team shared a short video of the iconic oooOOOOOoooo noise, adding: “Close your eyes. Always scary. Silent Hill 2 Siren.”

As rumours of a potential Silent Hill revival have been rampant over the past few months, it didn’t take long for gamers to flock to the tweet, assuming it was a hint towards an upcoming reveal.

However, Konami (again, the people who run the Twitter, at least) followed up the tweet with an explanation and an apology.

“Easy there internet,” Konami responded to the SH fandom. “We were watching streams of Dead By Daylight and thought we would share the noise and feel of being hunted. We wont take the tweet down and ‘backpedal’, we just wanted you to enjoy it.”

This is where it gets interesting though, as a third tweet from the team then added: “We are sorry we got people fired up. Anything official would come from first from @SilentHill or an event or something, not from us. We were just being fans and enjoyed the noise/memories. Sorry everyone, did[n’t] mean to kill your Friday mood.”

The handle linked here, @SilentHill, is an unverified Twitter account which was reportedly only acquired in the last month or so [via Eurogamer]. This is odd for a couple of reasons: one being, how has a handle like @SilentHill only been acquired in the last month? And also, why is Konami choosing to plug it now?

Maybe I’m looking too far into this, but something doesn’t smell right to me. Personally, I’ve not yet ruled out the rumour of a new Silent Hill game…
