In some very exciting news it’s being claimed that the iconic League of Legends will be getting the mobile treatment thanks to a partnership between LoL’s Riot Games and Tencent.
Three sources with “knowledge on the matter” confirmed the news to Reuters, saying that China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd is working with US-based Riot Games to develop the upcoming mobile game, though no release date was given.
The plan to turn LoL into everyone’s favourite mobile game has been on the cards for a while, claims one of Reuters’ sources, who states that Tencent and Riot have been trying to agree on the terms of a LoL mobile game for some time.
One of the anonymous sources claims the title has been in development for over a year, while another says a 2019 release is “unlikely.”
An official source is yet to debunk or verify the news, so take it with a pinch of salt for the time being.
League of Legends is one of the most-played desktop games in the world, and consistently brings huge numbers of players to the title thanks to its role in the world of esports.
True or not, it’s easy to see how well a LoL game on mobile could do. With millions of players already, the ability to take your game on the go could see a huge number of new gamers take up the challenge.
It’s also believed that launching a LoL mobile game would help bring in more Asian players, who tend to favour mobile gaming over desktop.
Would you like to see Tencent and Riot Games partner up to make a mobile version of League of Legends, or is this a game best suited to a desktop rather than the small screen?
