Just a couple of weeks ago the internet was rocked with rumours that an unannounced Resident Evil game is not only in the works, but is due to drop in 2020. Heavily speculated to be the much-desired Resident Evil 3 Remake, the leaks had lots of people hopeful, but all might not be as it seems.
Over on Twitter, known Resident Evil leaker @EvilVR debunked the previous leaks, claiming a source has revealed to them that we won’t be seeing another RE game until after the launch of Project Resistance.
The leaker writes: “BREAKING: No new Resident Evil game announcement this year. The most recent update from the source is the next new (or remake) Resident Evil game is planned for 2021, not 2020. They never planned to have new RE game for 2020 but #ProjectResistance.”
On the previous leaks, the user adds: “Yes, I’ve made mistakes, sources came from different people I’m in contact with, but trust me on this one, there will be no announcement on a new Resident Evil game. Maybe an update of #RE2Remake. I bring this recent news because I don’t want all of you to get your hopes high.”
Whether or not this leak is legit remains to be seen, but as always, take it with a pinch of salt.
Considering that the next RE game, Project Resistance, is still in development and Resident Evil 2 Remake has been out for less than a year, it doesn’t seem too likely we’ll be getting RE3 in 2020.
Since the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake at the beginning of this year, gamers across the world have been begging Capcom for RE 3: Nemesis to get the same remake treatment.
It’s yet to be confirmed (or denied) by Capcom, but considering just how well 2 Remake was received, it would be a pretty silly move to not give Nemesis its own remake…
Hopefully Capcom will shed some light on these rumours sooner rather than later!
EDIT: Since the time of writing, Resident Evil 3 Remake artwork has reportedly appeared on PSN. What this means for the future of the series remains to be seen.
